Dining at one of these establishments will set you back. The dinner menu at Alinea generally starts at $225 per person.
Fledgling or seasoned foodies who want to experience the world’s finest dining will have to travel to Spain, Quebec, France, and the United Kingdom for the privilege. Trip Advisor's 2015 Traveler’s Choice rankings of the world’s best restaurants as reviewed and recommended by its members is up. The U.S. doesn’t fare all that well.
Bouley, a French restaurant in New York, can take bragging rights as the most highly rated American restaurant on the list, but it only comes in at No. 15. The innovative Alinea in Chicago comes in at 16. And that’s it for American restaurants in the top 25.
Here are the top 10 (just kidding about Superdawg):
1. Martin Berasategui, Lesarte, Spain
2. Europea, Montreal, Quebec
3. Maison Lameloise, Chagny, France
4. Adam’s, Birmingham, United Kingdom
5. Restaurant Sat Bains, Nottingham, United Kingdom
6. Geranium, Denmark
7. PIC, Valence, France
8. NARISAWA, Minato, Japan
9. La Manoir Aux Quat’ Saisons, Great Millon, United Kingdom
10. Epicure, Paris, France
Suffice to say, dining at one of these establishments will set you back. The dinner menu at Alinea generally starts at $225 per person. But as the old saying goes, if you have to ask how much it costs, it might be best to dine elsewhere. If you can stomach the tab, TribAdvisor readers indicate, the dining experience is unparalleled, if that’s your idea of a good time.
About Martin Berasategui, one reviewer rhapsodized, “The meal was culinary poetry.” A meal at Europea was described as “A masterpiece. Four hours of food, wine and creative food presentation…a dining experience we will always remember.”
But what of American restaurants? In addition to Bouley and Alinea, TribAdvisor members ranked these at the 10 best in the United States:
