May 20, 2015 Fact of the Day: Do Socially Responsible Investments attract Affluent investors?
DID YOU KNOW THAT ALMOST HALF OF WEALTHY HOUSEHOLDS DO NOT CURRENTLY HAVE ANY SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE INVESTMENTS?
Why do these wealthy investors avoid socially responsible investing?
According to research recently conducted by Spectrem Group, the primary reason many investors do not have socially responsible investments is because 57 percent of investors indicate that their investment objectives are purely financial. More than a third of investors (35%) indicate they have never really thought about social responsibility when they are investing. Thirty two percent feel that most companies claiming “social responsibility” is merely public relations. Twenty percent of investors believe that corporations should do anything they can to generate profit and individuals can use their investment returns for providing social change. Ten percent feel that social responsibility is not a corporate responsibility.
Men are more likely to indicate that their investment objectives are merely financial as are the wealthiest investors. Older investors are also more likely to feel that corporations should generate a profit and social investing is something one should do on your own.
