Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz rallies business community to urge lawmakers to end partisanship.
Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz will co-host a national telephone forum tonight from 7:30-9 EST to address divisive political wrangling and its impact on the economy. Live video streaming of the event will be available at www.nolabels.org. Schultz's dissatisfaction with "the pervasive failure of leadership in Washington" has long been brewing. Three weeks ago he called on the nation's business leaders to sign a two-part pledge to withhold political campaign contributions until "a transparent, comprehensive, bipartisan debt-and-deficit package is reached" and to commit to" accelerate investment in jobs and hiring." The forum, he said in a statement, will send a message to "today's elected officials…that the time to put citizenship ahead of partisanship is now." Reportedly 100 companies have signed Schultz's pledge.
