Hawaii Tops List of Ideal Honeymoon Destinations, Focus of SWFL Magazine -May 22, 2013

Hawaii tops the list of idea honeymoon destinations, according to a survey of affluent investors by Spectrem's Millionaire Corner in April. More than one-fourth (27 percent0 of participants identified Hawaii in response to the open-ended question "What would be your ideal honeymoon destination?" The U.S. island state emerges as the most popular honeymoon destination by far, followed by those on the North American continent. 

"Investors seem to feel a honeymoon should be romantic, but not overly adventureous," said Cathy McBreen, president of Millionaire Corner. "They are more than three times as likely to identify Hawaii as any other location as the idea honeymooon destination. 

Ranking second were the U.S. or Canada (9 percent), followed by Europe (8 percent), the Caribbean (7 percent) and a beach, island or tropical locale (7 percent0. Here's a closer look at investors' percentions of idea honeymoon destinitations. 

  • Wealth: High net woth investors - those with investable assets of $5 million up to $25 million, not including primary residence - were less likely to identify Hawaee and more likely to indicate Europe as the idea place for a honeymoon. 
  • Marital Status: Married investors expressed a stronger preferece for Hawaii than their single countermats (30 percent vs. 17 percent, respectively). Single investors were more likely to idetify more exotic locals, such as New Zealand, Bali and Austrailia. 
  • Age: Older investors expressed a stronger preference for Hawaii and the U.S. and Canada, while those age 40 and younger were the most likely to identify FIji, Tahiti and Bora Bora as idea honeymoon desitinations.
