Heather's Couture Corner - What's a good pair of sunglasses worth to you?

| BY Heather Kiely

In the day and age where we run from one activity to the next, it is almost impossible to NOT lose your sunglasses. I, being an individual that has lost several expensive pairs of sunglasses, went on the search to find out how much does one spend on a pair of sunglasses, and how many ladies replace a lost pair at equal value. The responses were surprising and definitely will keep the sunglass industry in business! I polled 12 savvy ladies that I am friends with in my hometown of Lake Forest and asked them some questions.

Here are the results. When asking how much was your last purchase of sunglasses... 2/12 said $130 or less, 4/12 said $200, 3/12 said $300, and 3/12 said $400. My next question had to do with how many pairs of sunglasses does one pampered lady own? The popular answer at 6/12 was 2 pairs, followed by 2/12 with 1 pair, 2/12 with 3 pairs and 2/12 with 5 pairs!! Those ladies with 5 must take good care of their sunglasses and not lose them like me!

The brands that the ladies liked were very interesting because knowing each of these women and how different each of them are, they tend to all like the same brands….. There was a variety of single answers: such as, Oliver Peoples, Smith, and Dolce Gabanna. Then, being more popular, were Ralph Lauren, Prada, Chanel, and Gucci. Three out of the twelve ladies said they have in addition to their designer pair, a pair of generic no names for running around with their kiddos and when they take their little swimmers to the pool.
However, the most popular brands by large numbers were RayBans and Tom Ford. Out of the twelve surveyed, five of them had Tom Ford sunglasses; but out of the twelve surveyed, nine had RayBans. So, I am going to go buy some stock in RayBans tomorrow since they seem to be a favorite!

My last question that I found really interesting was how often women not only lose their designer sunglasses, but also how quickly they will replace them at equal value. Three of the ladies surveyed had never lost their glasses!! Bravo!!!! It really is hard not to lose $300 sunglasses! I swear! Of my friends that had lost pairs in the past, 4/9 did not replace at equal value right away. Likewise, 5/9 said they replaced with the same pair at equal value immediately. What was funny was the ladies who had never lost their glasses did say they would replace with the same pair if lost.

So, what does this say about ladies and their sunglasses…… I conclude it's like getting your hair dyed or cut. You can't go cheap because it is your face. People look at your face first more than let's say your handbag or outfit. Having a flattering pair of sunglasses makes you not only look more attractive, but also feel confident about your looks. I do have to say every time I see someone in RayBans, they look really sharp, and I can spot a pair of Tom Fords anywhere, and the women wearing them look very polished. But with that said, having a pair for under $100 is smart too for situations; such as, going to the club with your kids or hanging at the beach playing volleyball. All in all, sunglasses play a bigger part in our everyday lives than we might think. When I get in my car to drive, and I forget my sunglasses at home whether it be summer or winter, I am miserable!! I need my sunglasses!! Sunglasses and well made sunglasses are a must in everyday life, and for that reason alone, I consider them a "Heather's Couture Corner" smart investment! Reporting from Millionaire Corner, I'm Heather Kiely reminding you to keep your investments where everyone can see them; on your face, of course!
