Heather's Couture Corner - Review of the Chanel Grande Shopper

| BY Heather Kiely

I am doing a review of the Chanel Grande Shopping Tote. I have the black tote with gold hardware and absolutely love it! It is such a timeless classic that you can pass down to your daughter or granddaughter. There are many wonderful pros about the Chanel Grande Shopper.

First, I really like the caviar leather that is sturdy and very durable. The classic original Chanel bags were all made of lambskin, and though lambskin is absolutely gorgeous, it is also delicate. Another pro of the Grande Shopper is the luxurious gold chain straps. The straps are long enough to fit over your shoulder so it makes it easy for running errands and using it as an everyday bag. The inside interior has several compartments that make it easy for organization with not only several pockets, but two zipper pockets for safe keeping. On the outside back of the Chanel Grande Shopper, there is a large leather pocket that is my favorite feature of the bag. I like it so much that I sometimes use this pocket back as the front of the bag! The large leather pocket is perfect for holding keys, iPhone, or even mail you need to send….

Now with all this said, there are a few cons of the Chanel Grande Shopper. First, there is no bottom feet to protect the bag's bottom surface. Which means you really need to take care of this bag, no throwing it on the ground at a restaurant!!! Get a separate chair pulled over to have it sit on if you have too!!!! Another con that drives me nuts is that the bag will not hold its structured square shape. Over time, the side buckles out and the front droops at the bottom. If I could have any say at Chanel, I would tell them to fix this problem, but since they believe in making their bags of all leather without cardboard, their bags will relax over time. (Yes, all your super structured bags have cardboard inside to keep them firm….) The last small issue that I have with the Chanel Grande Shopper is the outside strap on your shoulder slips off… So, in order to keep it up on my shoulder, I criss cross the straps, and it never falls down. Overall, if you are thinking of getting this timeless classic, I would get it sooner than later because it is only going to get more and more expensive. I purchased mine about 4 years ago for $2350, and today, it is going for $2900. If it is going to get the same price hike as the Chanel Cerf Tote, then you can expect it to be $3300 very soon. From Millionaire Corner, I'm Heather Kiely reminding you to keep your investments where you can see them; in your closet, of course!
