Heather's Couture Corner - Out With The Old, In With The New

| BY Heather Kiely

So, the newest bag for fall is coming out, and you are wondering if you: A. Need another bag or B. Where you are going to get the cash for those extra needed essentials. Think of all the amazing stuff you have in your closet, and now think of all the amazing items of which you are bored. It is not because it is not current anymore, or because it is worn looking, but it is just not grabbing your attention anymore. Turn those items that you once craved into cash! It is so easy! I have soooo many bags, high-end shoes, couture coats that I just don't use as much as I thought I would and are in perfect condition to sell to get that next new "it" bag.

Now, you have many choices.... You can create an Ebay account and a Paypal account in order to list your item. You have to build a listing with 8-10 quality pictures and an in-depth description of the item being sold. Next, you need to decide wheather you will sell it as an "auction" or as "buy it now." I like "buy it now" because you are straight forward with what you want for your couture item, and the buyer has the right to make a lower offer, but at least they know where you stand. Once the item sells, Ebay takes a 10% cut, and Paypal will take a 3% cut of the money being transferred. On top of that, there are listing fees..... So you could make the most money selling with Ebay, but you could also make either the same amount or a little less and consign with a couture website.

Some of my favorite consignment shops online are Fashionphile, The RealReal, and LRX & CO. So what you do is look at what website is geared towards your item, then fill out their consignment inquiry, and attach high quality, detailed pictures. I went through Fashionphile, and the process was easy. I took 10 plus pictures of my Prada Lux Tote as well as wrote an, in-depth description and had proof of the original tags and receipt. Most stores can reprint your receipt. Then about two days later, Fashionphile made me an offer, and I accepted. Next, I sent off my bag and received a check about two weeks later. These websites also, of course, carry hundreds of gently used couture items for which you can trade! Sometimes, you may be looking for an old classic, and a gently used classic could save you close to a $1000 off the retail price.
