Heather's Fashion Blog - The Making of a Fashionista

| BY Heather Kiely

So, most of you who read and watch segments on Millionaire corner know me as the blonde girl who reads the news and interviews important people that come to our establishment. But did you know behind the blonde hair, blue eyes, and red lipstick was a shopping addict??? Oh you did.... Ok, then this new adventure for me into writing fashion advice (mostly commentary) is going to be easy! It all started back when I was in Grade School at St. Peter's and everyday I wore the same.. exact... thing... A plaid jumper, white shirt, white fold down socks, and maryjanes. Now, there was the occasional bright colored head band or sparkly bracelet that I was allowed to wear or by 8th the grade the red, pink or blue bra I would wear under my white shirt to you know , get sent home.... get attention... the usual Catholic girl stuff. Hey, if a colored bra was the worst thing I was doing in 8th grade then my parent's tuition was going to good use.

I proceeded to attend private Catholic High School and was given a little more room for fashion, but not much. It really all began when I entered this Camelot inspired town called "Lake Forest" where I attended College. I was a theatre and communications major with a minor in dance. Now, don't get me wrong, I shopped a lot growing up with my mom and grandma, so it was in my blood, but never really shopped like I was about to.... I would soon be getting an education in Couture Fashion. I would go into town and see all these beautiful women in clothes I had never seen before. Their handbags and shoes exquisite and their cars were as pretty as their outfits!! I decided right then and there I would become a "Lake Forest Lady".

Over the years at college I worked several jobs from barrista, cashier girl in the cafeteria, financial aid student worker, and babysitter for some of my soon to be best friends. I remember (my now really close friend) Shelly, the mom of twin girls and this darling boy, picking me up for sitting jobs on Saturday nights. She had the best clothes and I wanted them all!! Once she came in this chic brownish leather jacket with Mongolian fur at the cuffs and the neck..... AHHHH I could have died!!! I was hooked. I was finally making cash, and I was spending it on handbags, shoes, and the latest styles. Four years went by fast and I graduated at the top of my class (because I worked as hard in school as I did at shopping. I mean how was I going to buy Louis Vuitton and drive a nice car if I couldn't get a good job?? ) When I was ready to move forward into the real world, I had many exciting jobs as a morning reporter, as well as working in PR. I wanted to make the most money I could for as little work as possible. I will never forget what Paul Conrad at WGN morning show in Chicago told me, "Heather if you truly love what you’re doing the money will come". I live by that motto everyday. So, what did I love ???.....singing, dancing and acting. So, I proceeded to start a Company doing just that with children. I run my performance Company in Lake Forest where I live with my husband and Havanese pup, Mrs. Tinkles, and my Shitzu, Otter. I still shop til I drop and am so exited to share all my fashion tips with you!

I am a HUGE handbag girl and flip for Chanel,  Louis Vuitton, Celine and Prada. I am obsessed with fashionable flats from Tory Burch Reva's, Prada loafers, Mui Mui, smoking flats, to Chloe pointe shoe ballet flats, to my newest love Charlotte Olympia. I can't wait to talk to you each week about my shopping excursions and what my newest fashion obsession is.....and should be yours too!!! I hope my little articles inspire you to shop and let a ray of sunshine into your closet. And beware of the school uniform!!! It may create future shopahollics!!!!
