Heather's Couture Corner - Halloween Costumes for You and Your Pets

| BY Heather Goodrich

If you are a fan of ghosts and goblins, witches and zombie brides, then you are going to love this week’s blog about Halloween fashion!

As the holiday approaches and Halloween party invitations pile up, many of us feel pressured to buy one or more expensive costumes. But if you’d like a stylish look that won’t break the bank, I have a few ideas you can pull together from pieces we already have in our house.

Below, I have three outfits you can throw together lickity-split!!! I also have pictures up of some extraordinary costumes you can get online from to really add some finishing touches to your ensemble (or your pet’s). Come along with Mrs. Tinkles, Otter, and me as we get ready for Halloween!!!!

Couture Witch
If you own a black cashmere sweater, black leggings or even better… leather leggings, black heels, and OPI Lincoln Park After Dark nail polish, you have the foundation for a great witch costume!!! All you need is an extraordinary witch hat!

I am kinda crafty and would make my original witch hat... glue on some orange ribbon, add a fuzzy spider....maybe some cloth pumpkins, and a lot of glitter. But if you are looking for a quick order in time for Halloween, I found two beautiful hats online. has a gorgeous, Purple Feather Witch Hat, available for only $9.49!!!!! I really like the x-large purple feathers and polka dot netting, super cute!!!!

The other hat I found will be one of the most beautiful witch hats you have EVER SEEN!!!!! Go to (if it isn't already, it will become your next big obsession!!) and search Marcellefinery. You will be blown away!!!!! My favorite witch hat is the Lily's Paradise hat. It’s handmade of satin, sparkle tulle, glittered trims, silk flowers, peacock feathers, and a feather boa.

If Lily’s Paradise isn’t quite your style, Marcellefinery has a great black, glitter skeleton hat that is sure to scare the ghosts away!!! The Midnight Marsh hat is handmade in satin with glittered tulle, silk flowers, pheasant feathers, coquet feathers, and glittered trims.

Both of these hats are just so pretty and available for $74-$88 by Marcellefinery at

Cook/Martha Stewart
Now, we all have an apron....right??? .... Take a pair of your favorite white jeans, white v-neck tee-shirt, flour for your face, don your apron and wolla!! You’re a Chef!!!

If you don't have an adorable apron, you are in luck because I found some that will just tickle you pink.) There is this handmade Halloween apron available on by 4RetroSisters-Sophia Style called "The Witch Is In."

I don't know what I love more......the black and white polka dots mixed with the orange and black polka dots or the orange and black stripe bottom with black pom pons trim!!! Ahhhh!!! So cute! The online shop has other half aprons available orange or a purple called "Pretty in Purple."

Both are the cutest things you've ever seen and are available for $29.95 (half apron)-$44.95 (full apron) at via 4RetroSisters.

Coco Chanel
Who wouldn't want to be Coco Chanel? I mean she is the legend of women's couture design!!! Ok, what you might already own to pull off this look....Black tweed jacket, black pencil skirt, black heels, and opera pearls. What you will need to sell that Coco Chanel "look" for Halloween...... a cigarette (real or fake) of course - since she was a heavy smoker, an off white flower pin for your tweed jacket and the legendary Coco Chanel HAT!! In 1909, Chanel moved to Paris and started designing hats for friends. Her hat designs are clean and simple, and are favored among young women who reject the elaborate hats that are en vogue. Chanel’s lover, Boy Chapel, gave her money to open a hat shop on rue Cambon in Paris. Coco set up a crisp, white awning in front of the shop with "Coco Chanel" painted in black letters, marking the beginning of the famous double ‘C’ Chanel logo. I found a fedora hat with the same simple, clean look on for $42.98.

Puppy Halloween Fashion
Now, we can't forget about man's best friend!!!! ESTY has the best handmade dog costumes ever!!! There is this crocheted monster costume by ZayaLosya that is hilarious!!! I crack up every time I look at it).

Another great costume on ETSY is a lion costume for a small dog by KOCouture. KOCouture has several really cute frilly items to make your pup the best dressed at the neighborhood Halloween party!!! Doggie costumes on ETSY range from $25.00-65.00.

I hope my fun little suggestions have you shopping your closet for some Halloween costumes you already own, and if you don't own any of these fun ideas, I know could probably find you anything your heart desires. Literally!!! I just typed into the search engine for ETSY skeleton costume..... nearly 30 lovely, handmade costumes just popped up!!! So, skip the store bought costume; if you are going to buy something for Halloween, go for the handmade original look. :) I know I will definitely be buying one of those exquisite witch hats!

This is Heather Kiely reminding you to keep your investments where you can see them - in your closet, of course!!!
